About Emily

I’m Rather Fond of Numbers

My name is Emily Condit. I’m a recreational mathematician and a coder (among many other things). I have a few degrees. Nothing to write home about. Nothing that would indicate I have anything groundbreaking to contribute to the field of mathematics. But what I lack in academic bona fides, I (almost) make up for in passion and imagination. My primary interest is in prime numbers and proofs about prime numbers. I’ve got my eye on the Twin Prime Conjecture and Goldbach’s Conjecture. I’ve been told their proofs are the errands of fools (or at least fools far more educated than I). That’s okay because I’m interested and that’s more than enough to keep me going. Check out some of my own conjectures here.

The reason this site is called The Spiral Squarecase is because I independently invented Ulam’s Spiral. I really didn’t think much of it at the time. I was trying to figure out a way to write numbers inside of squares infinitely so a perfect square would appear in a systematic way in a corner of the next square. I don’t know what possessed me exactly but I came up with The Spiral Squarecase. It was more of a creative endeavor than anything I thought might be particularly applicable to the field of mathematics. His spiral was slightly different than mine. He started at 1 and went left to 2. I started at 1 and went down to 2. There are 8 different orientations of the spiral. You can see my version on the home page.

Math Blog

My blog posts are about what I’m currently working on and interested in. I prove a lot of things that have already been proven just to see if I can. I also prove things that most mathematicians haven’t thought of proving because they’re simple proofs.

I have been known to tutor math but finding tutoring clients is not the main purpose of this site. But if you have questions about anything on this site or are in need of tutoring, feel free to shoot me an email.
